2 new purses, LOTS of new fabric!

Attention ladies! (and gentlemen?)

My mom just listed two new purses on etsy:

Pretty in pink

Blue and yellow plaid

She has one that is almost ready:
A new style!

AND she just got a whole bunch of gorgeous/funky/fab new fabric:

Black and white on the outside, yellow bumblebees for the inside! *My personal favorite.

If you like any of the fabrics (how could you not??), shoot her an email at emmepurses@gmail.com and you can have one yourself!

I take mine everywhere :)

Summer vegetable pizza

Tonight was pizza night at my house, made even more awesome by two great discoveries:

1. Fleischmann's pizza crust yeast
I found this at Wegman's (l-o-v-e.) and was a little hesitant to try it out. Isn't yeast yeast? How can you "specially formulate" it? Freaked me out.
Anywho, I'm glad to report that this little package made the BEST, crispiest, most delicious pizza crust I've had! And it didn't need any time to rise! Perfection.

2. Fresh summer veggies
These cute little guys came from (you guessed it!) our garden. This is the FIRST tomato of the season!

A make-your-own-pizza buffet!

Snickerdoodles

Today I made snickerdoooOOodles. I had forgotten how yummy and simple they are! And they travel well, if you happen to be sending them in a care package to someone you know ;)

I used this recipe by Martha Stewart.

Happy Birthday, Amy!

Happy Birthday to Miss Amy!,

my fellow newbie teacher and lover of baked goods.

I could NOT find a picture of us together, so here is a pic of an adorable puppy in hopes that you will actually get one and share it with me:

Banana Cupcakes with Brown Sugar Buttercream

Holy moly. You want to taste goodness? Make these banana cupcakes. You want to taste even-better-ness? Slap on a little brown sugar buttercream. You want to make them superbly cute? Roll out some fondant flowers.

There you have it. A recipe for success.

My cupcake baking went a little backwards today, as in I started with toppings first. I impulsebought a package of Wilton pre-made fondant at the store the other day, and have been itching to do something with it ever since.

So I added some color and got inspired by these gorgeous flowers in the garden:

Replicated in fondant form:

Well aren't you just adorbs!

Anywho, after I made my cupcake toppings, I needed a cupcake! I was trying to find something semi-healthy that doesn't involve 2 sticks of butter and 4 cups of sugar (it is bathing suit season after all), and stumbled upon Bakerella's banana cupcake recipe. Overripe banana = less butter and less sugar needed! I used even less sugar than the recipe suggests, and soy milk instead of whole.

THEN, I needed a frosting! I was trying to think of yummy things that go with bananas (chocolate, peanut butter, i.e., everything?), and settled on the classiest combo I could come up with: brown sugar, a la bananas foster. I made up my own recipe (!) for the frosting, and it went a little something like this:

1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1 - 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 tablespoon milk
1 teaspoon vanilla

Beat the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add 1/4 cup powdered sugar and beat until incorporated. Add milk, vanilla, and another 1/4 cup of sugar. Beat for a minute or so, and add another 1/4 cup of sugar. Based on the consistency you want, add the last bit of powdered sugar, or more to your liking. Makes enough frosting for 12 cupcakes or 24 mini cupcakes.

SYTYCD

I can't even tell you how much I love So You Think You Can Dance. It makes my Wednesday nights, because of things like this:

Just to give you a little background,
Alex (the one in red) is a trained ballet dancer.

In the words of Lil C:

Buck.

Don't get crabby, have a drink!

The epic journey that is crab-trapping.

I spent my 4th of July hanging out on Mike's family's dock in Ocean City, NJ. Throughout the afternoon we caught or were visited by many curious creatures, including, but not limited to:

12 crabs
1 hermit crab
2 sand sharks
1 jellyfish
1 starfish
7 ducklings

Wowee! If you know me and my love of the aquarium, you'll know that being able to touch a shark (even if it didn't have any teeth AND puked all over us) = best day ever.

The dock had two crab traps attached to it, so we checked them throughout the day and that's how we found all those creatures!

While attempting Pop pop's signature "don't get clawed by the crab while pulling it out of the trap" move, Mike did, in fact, get clawed.

Owwwwch!

Luckily the crabs got distracted clawing each other, just in time for me to snap a pic!

Then the crab got thirsty.
Gimme gimme gimme!

MINE.

Too...much...beer...
(no crabs were harmed in the taking of this photo)

Unfortunately we decided to let the crabbies go and continue on their sideways journey of life.

Take me back to this!!

4th of July festivities!

My dearest readers,

I am SO sorry for being M.I.A. the past week. I've been busy attending bachelorette parties and playing at the beach. Here are some beautiful 4th of July photos so you can see what I've been up to!

Love,
Melanie

Can you handle those sunset colors? What a gorgeous weekend. Missing the beach already!
